Qi2 Certification, Plainly Explained for Buyers

What WPC actually tests, how to verify a supplier’s claim, and why “Qi2 ready” is not the same as “Qi2 certified.”

Qi2 Certification, Plainly Explained for Buyers

The Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) introduced Qi2 to fix the alignment problem of original Qi. Here’s what you need to know as a buyer.

What WPC tests

  • Magnetic alignment force (Qi2 MPP only)
  • Foreign object detection (FOD)
  • Power transfer efficiency at 15W
  • Thermal performance under sustained load
  • Interoperability with reference Qi2 devices

How to verify

Every certified product gets a unique WPC ID. Look it up at https://www.wirelesspowerconsortium.com/products. If your supplier can’t give you the ID, the certification is fake.

“Qi2 ready” vs “Qi2 certified”

“Qi2 ready” is marketing speak for “design supports it but never went through certification.” Avoid for any market with import enforcement (US, EU, Japan, Korea).
